Adora Svitak on the value of childish dreaming

When was the last time you were called childish?

Here’s a better question: when was the last time you dreamed like a child? In the pressurized world of adulthood and work and economic troubles, when was the last time you dreamed of ideas that your adult‒self would frown upon? When did you truly let yourself be creative without limitations?

Adora Svitak, a touted child prodigy and remarkably talented author, believes that adults should step back from our idealized world and look to children in order to learn about the potential of limitless ideas. “The world needs childish thinking, bold ideas, wild creativity and especially optimism. Kids’ big dreams deserve high expectations,” Adora says, “starting with grownups’ willingness to learn from children as much as to teach,”

“Progress happens when new generations grow and become better than the previous one. It’s the reason we’re not in the dark ages anymore.”
